We had 15 people, 11 dogs and 12 horses gathered in Buck Meadows. For some of us the fun began Wednesday night with overindulgence of V & V!!! Thursday folks seemed content to lounge in chairs, take cat naps and just catch up with others. Friday was a nice, short ride. Ron, of course, spied a buck watching us from the woods. There were wildflowers scattered about and great views of the snow-capped mountains. We came back to camp for lunch and again just enjoyed the camp-camaraderie. There was plenty of water in the creek for the horses and dogs. Saturday was a longer ride and we lunched at a natural spring. We did encounter 2 motor cycles and 1 quad on this trail. They were extremely courteous and cut the engines as soon as they saw us. We herded together on the side of the road and a few riders went back to let them know they could idle by us. They waved and wished us a good day and moved on without incident. The rides were mostly on fire roads with a few detours on older, unmaintained trails. We clearly didn’t even make a dent in the riding area up there. There is a lot of exploring to do!
We collected a lot of camp fire data each evening. The food
was fabulous everyday and there was so much of it! Katherine’s Southern
Shooter pancakes were definitely the biggest hit of the weekend. I think we
were all ready to be up in the mountains, even the horses seemed happy to
be out and about. Happy Trails!
