Peoria Flat Ride
February 2008

Who would have thought the weather would have been so nice to us in February.
Bob Magee was our trail boss for this weekend and did a great job for his first time.
Thank you Bob.
It was so beautiful, that several of us even camped out.

Saturday dawned, cool and clear. Temperatures climbed into the low 60s. it was a great
day for around 50 riders to climb aboard and enjoy the nice views. Fresh green grass,
creeks flowing and even some wildlife was spotted while riding along the trails.

For the most part, all the horses behaved as well as could be expected under the bright blue
skies and fresh air. I would have to admit this time of year they do get a little itchy under there
winter coats and sweat. Which means you have to be prepared for any antics. One of my friends
horses decided that laying down in the pond with a new rider aboard would feel much better than
getting a drink. Both horse and rider got soaked, but no harm done. Several other horses had the tail
swishing and back legs lifting as they were seriously considering doing the same thing. Later in the ride,
the same horse decided that the warm green grass was just too tempting. And laid down to test it out
with no warning. Another little bit of entertainment with no harm done and no injuries. Just lots of laughter.

Everyone just raved about the days ride. We got to meet some new people and make new friends.
I want to Thank Ron and Katherine Wilson for supplying us with enough valentines cookies and Candy
to feed an army!!! Those were a huge hit! For those of us who camped, had the usual great meals, long
leisurely chats around the campfire, which included some of the out of ordinary antics.
I hope you enjoy the slideshow below.
