SCHNEIDER’S CAMP
AUGUST 2005

What a great weekend this turned out to be. We had 19 riders show up,
with some non riders to boot. Schneider’s camp is located in Amador County,
across from Caples Lake, just east of Kirkwood Ski Resort.

The road into it was a little rocky with washouts, slow going, but doable.
The camping area was large but very dusty, hard to believe after the wet winter
we had. There you will find a homemade Bar B Q pit with our clubs name on it,
that has been there for years.

Thursday brought the early birds. A nice relaxing day, We unpacked, got our camps
set up, and let our horses get acclimated and ready for Friday. I need to mention that
the first people who arrived were Ray and Janet all the way from Lancaster/Palmdale
area in southern California. So Far, I do believe that is the farthest we have had folks
come for our rides.

Fridays ride had eleven riders, Bill Fine, one of our ex Presidents and his buddy
Gary came up for the day. We had a beautiful 4 hour ride, to Showers Lake, where
we encountered some folks who were using goats to pack there stuff in. I couldn’t get
a picture as they were resting and did not have the packs on the goats. Then we rode
to Meiss Lake for lunch. It turned out to be a pretty easy ride, very relaxing, with
some beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. When we got back to camp, we found some new
arrivals, with several more rigs rolling in after that. Dinner consisted of Appetizers that
night, which all of us brought some to share. As usual, none of us went to bed hungry.

Saturday dawned cool but clear, soon to warm up into the 70s. Nineteen of us hit
the trail shortly after 10:00 am for another 4 hour ride in a different direction. This
ride took us to views overlooking Caples Lake, and Kirkwood Ski resort, down and
around to Showers lake, where we had lunch, then on back to camp. That night, we
all cooked our own meat and brought a side dish to share. Let me tell you, we had a
spread fit for a King. I even whipped up a couple cobblers in my dutch ovens, an apple,
and a blackberry. Can we say WOW!!!! Donna brought the vanilla Ice cream, and I can
tell you, I had nothing left over. What a huge hit!!!

In the following pictures, you will see the folks who rode with us, views of Lake Tahoe,
Showers Lake, Meiss Lake, Caples Lake, all of us relaxing around camp, and even My
dutch oven cobblers.
Thank You Tine for leading this weekend!! We had a great time!!!
