POKER
RIDE
APRIL 2005
The day turned out to be
beautiful, sunny and warm, with a slight breeze, which
brought out 65 riders and a few non riders for this event. We broke the groups
into
about twenties, I lead the second group, which happened to grow as we went.
After all the rain we have
had all winter and Spring , Hogan Lake in Calaveras
County, was full beyond what most of us had ever seen and had created a few
water
crossing that became quite interesting.
We had one green broke horse, that decided to go down in the lake, its owner
having to
bail off and go swimming herself, which I got pictures of. By the end of the
day we had a total
of 4 people end up in the drink in one fashion or another. No one hurt, just
lots of entertainment.
We got back to the staging
area for a hot chili lunch, with all the trimmings. A raffle that included
a ton of hay for the grand prize. And a bunch of other gifts including a rafting
trip for six people.
The Poker hand winners were paid $50.00 for high hand and the same for a low
hand.
I have enclosed pictures
of the group that ended up riding with me, the water crossing,
and the group around lunch, and raffle time.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.
